Prince's Port

Distance: 0.67 Km

Prinsens Port was the main gate through the ramparts until 1925. Almost all traffic to and from the city passed this road, as the roads to Vejle, Kolding and Snoghøj began here. The gate is a beautiful structure that, together with the ramparts and the main guard, forms a historical framework around the Soldier and the square.

The present appearance of the gate can be traced back to 1753, when the foundation-walled gate was erected to replace former oak gates.
In the year 2000, the gate was provided with gate wing, after the gate had been ribbed for these for more than 100 years. Passage over the moat originally happened along a wooden bridge that could be hoisted up. In 1774 the bridge was replaced by the present dam.

In front of the gate is the ravelin - an advanced defense facility in front of the city gate. At the same time, the ravelinen camouflaged the gate so that it could not be seen from a distance.

In 1924, Danmarksporten was built as a relief for the overly narrow Prinsens Gate.
