Special exhibitions, Café and museum shop

Middelfart Museum is a local museum that preserves the history of Middelfart Municipality and has a special focus on the history of Danish psychiatry.

The Middelfart Museum includes five different exhibition venues, and in addition, the museum arranges seasonal activities and cultural-historical, guided tours.

Every year in the period May to October, you can experience a special exhibition at Middelfart Museum focusing on Middelfart's local history under an overarching theme.

SPECIAL EXHIBITION OF THE YEAR 2024

Middelfart Museum has begun a new chapter: the construction of MIND, Denmark's Psychiatric History Museum, which is to be a national attraction.

MIND will have exhibitions and community spaces in a patient building at the former mental hospital in Middelfart, today called Teglgårdsparken. Here there will be a room about the history of psychiatry, a room for conversations about mental illness and a room for communities.

MIND will open according to plan in 2026. In the next few years, you will be able to follow the work with MIND in the exhibition rooms at Algade 8. Here, we take history as a starting point and test different forms of communication under themes such as psychiatry, mental illness and mental health. All under the collective heading: "While we wait for MIND".

Café Inga

The museum's café is named after Inga Jørgensen, who for many years ran a guest house at Grimmerhus. The café is furnished with furniture donated by Inga Jørgensen and the coffee is served in the old mussel-painted frame that was used in the boarding house's time.

Our skilled café ladies bake fresh cakes for the café every day, e.g. according to the original old recipes by Inga Jørgensen.

Museum shop

In the shop we have a large selection of old-fashioned toys, books, posters, cards, postcards and textiles. You will also find a large selection of things for children with a focus on Danish design.

Gingerbread Town

Experience the Gingerbread City every year from late November to mid-December.

This year's Christmas exhibition

Every year you can experience a small Christmas exhibition in connection with Middelfart Peberkageby.
