Smidstrup & Omegns Museum

Distance: 12.94 Km

Smidstrup & Omegn's Local Archive and Museum are located in a former stable extension to Smidstrup Præstegård. At the museum, you get a good impression of what life was like as workers on the farms and in the fields in the parish.

At the Smidstrup & Omegns Museum there is a 400 m2 exhibition on 2 floors. The exhibitions show life in a village 100-150 years ago. The museum is furnished with small rooms that show how people lived and worked in the countryside.

One can see various crafts from that time. eg. shoemaker's workshop, cooper, carpenter, agriculture and a rare pumpmaker's workshop from approx. 1860 can be seen. One exhibition shows the process of making wool and linen, while another has home-made handicrafts in the form of straw wicker and woodcarving.

The first floor contains local archives and exhibitions. A schoolroom as well as showcases with permanent and changing exhibitions can be seen here. A major exhibition in 2018 on handicrafts and needlework, as well as the tools used, can also be seen in 2019.

For some years, a group of volunteers has been working on "project mini city". Smidstrup town is recreated as it looked in 1950. Made in cardboard 1: 100. A big and laborious job. It will be a few more years before the project is completed. The finished houses can be seen in the exhibition.

Smidstrup-Skærup Central School was inaugurated in 1959. The museum shows an exhibition for 60 years with effects, images and other initiatives. Items the museum has received in 2018 will also be exhibited.

Efforts are always made to give the museum a good experience, and for the older visitors a memory image from childhood. It is our hope that the younger people who visit the museum will get a small glimpse of life in Smidstrup parish, as it unfolded more than a hundred years ago.

Groups, large and small, can visit the museum by appointment, also during the winter. Agreements can be made on mobile tel: 23865142 or mobile tel: 20582960, or per. mail: smidstrupoma@gmail.com.
