The five works of art

The art walk takes you past the five works of art below:

  1. Hydra
  2. On Bedding
  3. Kajen's Grammar
  4. What we don't know, we don't know
  5. Radio Sphere Søndervold (bring headphones!)

The works of art spread over the harbor area between buildings, in Fredericia's new nature park and on the quay. The artwork Hydra is even a building in itself.

Since 2017, Kanalbyen has collaborated with the Statens Kunstfond to integrate art into the urban space in the new district, and the above works are also part of this collaboration.

The goal is that the Canal City will eventually accommodate more works of art as the district develops, and that the art route will therefore also be longer. Previously, the art walk was also called Artwalk.

Kanalbyen: Urban development at Fredericia Harbour

Kanalbyen is a new district on an old harbor and industrial area by the Port of Fredericia. The name comes from the newly constructed canals that run through the district. Although the canals are new, the idea of Fredericia as a canal city is as old as Fredericia itself.

When Frederik III founded the city in the middle of the 3th century, it was with plans for canals instead of streets. However, Denmark's poor economy meant that Frederik III never got to put his vision into practice, and it was only in 1600 that the vision became a reality when the sod was laid for the first canal, Frederiks Kanal.
